Vicarage Road, home to Watford FC contracted Ryans Cleaning in 2017 to handle all their cleaning requirements, a successful partnership which has proven to be a match made in heaven! Sustainability is key for every business and the staff at Vicarage Road have been raising the bar with new innovative sustainability initiatives that other venues could certainly learn from. Their passion for sustainability combined with Ryans Cleaning’s know-how and experience has ensured exceptional results when they trialled some new initiatives and procedures at the stadium recently.

Watford FC launched their reusable pint cups initiative earlier this season when they played Chelsea on November 2nd and the crowd embraced it wholeheartedly. There was a lot of promotional and directional aids at the venue on the day and all staff were trained to help patrons to recycle their waste correctly which also helped. Procurement Manager, Tarang Panchal said “This year I have been heading various projects to improve the clubs environmental and sustainability efforts. One such initiative is the launch of our reusable pint cups. I wanted to extend my warmest thanks to the Ryan Cleaning team for playing a crucial role in making this work before, during and after the fixture. From the beginning, they showed enthusiasm and a can-do attitude in co-ordinating the team to do a great job. The team has also adapted very well to managing the various waste streams since our introduction of cardboard, mixed recycling and food waste streams. We couldn’t do it without them!”

Speaking of the sustainability efforts at Watford FC, Aisling Ryan, General Manager, Ryans Cleaning said “It is very rewarding when you work with a progressive client who is willing to tackle their waste management practices and put sustainability initiatives in place to make a difference in the short, medium and longer-term. It takes some work and planning of course but it’s the right thing to do and I believe the public really notices it when it is in place and when it is not. This particular initiative will divert a substantial amount of single-use plastic cups from landfill and the management team at Watford FC ought to be recognised for their efforts and enthusiasm.”

Ryans Cleaning who have offices in Birmingham and two locations in Ireland, have over 30 years of experience in the venues and events cleaning industry. They service popular UK events like The Epsom Oaks and Derby Race Meetings, British Summer Time at Hyde Park and Leeds, Reading, Creamfields and Download music festivals to name a few.

Sustainability efforts are very much a team collaboration between the venue, the cleaning contractors and the patrons, however, it has been shown that when well-laid sustainability plans and procedures are in place by a quality service provider like Ryans Cleaning a little can go a long way. At Croke Park, Ireland’s Largest Sporting Arena, Ryans Cleaning have turned the venue into a ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’ stadium and maintained that status without exception since 2014. Ryans Cleaning together with Croke Park won the Facilities Management Award for ‘In-House Facilities Management Team of the Year’ for their remarkable efforts last year while earlier this year Ryans Cleaning won the ‘Cleaning Service Provider of the Year’ award.
